Gentse Strop

The Gentse Strop story dates back to the time of Charles V and the infamous “stroppendragers” or noose-carriers of Ghent. When the people of Ghent refused to pay additional imperial taxes, Charles V had the dignitaries parade through the city wearing a noose around their neck, as a sign that they deserved to be hanged. The noose thus became the symbol of their resistance against any form of tyranny and misplaced authority. Proud, headstrong, full of character… What goes for the people of Ghent also goes for the Gentse Strop and the Gentse Strop Alcohol-free!
